Last night John Biggs wrote to Rainbow Hamlets. We have since communicated by email/ text and he has agreed to an early meeting.

Hi Jack
I am sorry that I am unable to participate this year. I am simply overwhelmed by the work on taking over in the Borough.

I hope that Tower Hamlets has a lively and vigorous presence and you can tell the rest of London that we are proud to support Pride. I instructed that the rainbow Flag be displayed at Mulberry Place [Tower Hamlets Town Hall] (I wasn’t sure why I had to be asked but there we are. Protocol, I imagine).

I look forward to working with you and please tell everyone that their new Mayor supports Pride and a Borough rooted in tolerance.

John Biggs
Mayor of Tower Hamlets

Jack Gilbert, Rainbow Hamlets CEO comments:

We are proud to be running the Rainbow Hamlets Pride Bus with support from Tower Hamlets Council.

We particularly welcome Mayor Biggs’s statement of commitment to LGBT concerns and his accessible business-like manner.

We look forward to a breath of fresh air in Tower Hamlets.

Once we have met, we will report in detail on the matters raised.
